Being a self-motivator is not that hard but often people don’t realize that they need this awesome characteristic in order to survive in this fast pace world.

If fate means you to lose, give him a good fight anyhow

Motivation is the driving force of everyone’s life. No one can achieve their aim without being motivated from inside or outside. It’s a basic need that keeps you moving towards your goal. Often people are looking for outside help to motivate themself when they feel low. It’s not bad at all to read some good article, stories, or blog to motivate yourself but rely on some help which is uncertain cause more trouble to you. So you have to learn how to get motivated on your own.

Study shows if you want complete peace of mind, be a SELF MOTIVATOR. So the question is how to become a self-motivator?

Try to achieve below 10 characteristics and I bet you don’t rely on others to be motivated anymore.

  1. Be independent — It simply means do your work by yourself as much as possible and don’t rely on anyone to get it done. It doesn't mean, not to share your job/task with anyone and do it all by yourself. But you at least have a complete plan with you on how to complete your job/task on your own. Obviously, you can take help from others when you reach a dead end. The point here is don’t simply ask someone to help you out in something without trying your 100%.
  2. Be positive — Look at the positive side of everything. There is a saying in Bhagavad Gita “what happened/happening/will happen is for a good reason” and if you try to find it, you will surely get one. Life is too short to think negatively. In order to live in peace, you have to have developed this skill. Once you develop this characteristic you will be able to cope with any problem/situation without any support from outside.
  3. Live in present — We all know living in present is the key to have peace of mind. However, we often push ourselves to the past or future and missed the present moment. It’s really hard to forget your past and avoid the future. You really don’t need to. Just keep them with you, past as your teacher and future as your inspiration. The present is your creator so always stick with it and use your past(teacher) and future(inspiration) when and where needed.
  4. Be confident — Be confident simply means believe in yourself. Try to keep faith in yourself and see the outcome. Achieve confidence in ourselves is not an easy task. You have to accomplish what you started in order to make yourself believe you can do it. Try to start from small things and complete them with 100% commitment. As you move ahead with accomplishing small things, your confidence level will start developing. To achieve a big goal, divide it into small chunks and pick one by one as an individual goal and complete it. Example: You take one look at a book that’s seven volumes long and you don’t want to read it. Instead, break it up. The rest of the volumes are still there, they’re just waiting in the wings for when you’re ready to bring them on.
  5. Be realistic — Look or analyze the worst part of what you are afraid to do and have a plan B for it. Being realistic helps to move ahead towards your goal without any kind of fear in mind. You proactively have calculated the worst and have plan B on hand, so nothing to fear about. It also helps to clear out the consequences prior to jump on the track so you will have a better picture in mind of what you are going to face and how to get through it.
  6. Do what you enjoy or enjoy what you do — According to the Forbes survey, 87% of workers are not satisfied with their Job. It simply means they are not enjoying what they are doing at their workplace. I admit getting a dream job is become a nightmare nowadays and you probably won’t get one in your lifetime. So here is the solution, if you can’t do what you enjoy, start enjoying what you do. It’s simple, try to find the reason how you can enjoy what you are doing or how to do it in such a way that helps you to enjoy it. However, if you really couldn't figure it out it’s better to quit it instead of keep doing it without interest.
  7. Compare yourself to you only— To be a self-motivator one needs to strictly follow this rule. I admit human nature won’t allow stopping comparing you with others so don’t push yourself too hard to stop it. But you can put a reminder that whenever your mind compares you with others, remind it to compare you with yourself 3 months back. You will get satisfied with at least one comparison (you with you). But make sure if you compare yourself with you 3 months back you will get a positive result. ☺
  8. Celebrate your victory — Even if it’s a small thing, celebrate it, feel it and enjoy it. Yes, It doesn't matter whether you have accomplished small or big, what truly matters is you have “accomplished”. So don’t miss the chance to celebrate it. Feel the joy of accomplishment within you and it sure likes hell boosts your self-confidence and pushes you towards the goal of being a self-motivator.
  9. Help Others — Helping others is a key medicine that helps you to be a self-motivator. Helping others always helps to boost your self-esteem which in turn automatically helps you to get motivated. There is a nice quote from Napoleon Hill “It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.”
  10. Last but not least Love yourself — No one in this world is perfect, everyone has their imperfection. So there is no reason to hate yourself just because you are not doing something or achieving something like others. Love yourself and learn to forgive yourself. It doesn't mean to make mistakes or hurt someone and then forgive yourself ☺, try to do your best to wrap the messed up things but if you failed in spite of all your effort, then it’s time to forgive yourself and move ahead.
All the Best
